Lady getting up after sleeping on a Chillow

Those who have trouble sleeping. The Chillow can help to relax you with its cooling, soothing effect, it will slow the body and calm the mind. Studies have shown use of a Chillow helped people to sleep.

People often struggle to sleep as their pillow is hot and whether consciously or unconsciously they disturb their sleep trying to find a cool spot .Either by altering their head position or by flipping their pillow. Pillows are made from materials that trap heat. In order to be able to sleep the body needs to loose heat. The heat loss occurs mainly through the head and face. This means that the pillow becomes hot as does the head and face. This heat causes discomfort and affects sleep.

Acne can also cause the skin to become hot, inflamed and irritated. The Acne Resource Centre has recognised the benefits the use of the Chillow can provide to those who suffer from acne.

Sports injuries/ back pain.Unlike traditional ice packs the chillow is soft and flexible and can be moulded to fit over particular areas to provide cool relief.

The Benefits

Who would benefit from using a Chillow?

A Chillow can benefit a wide range of people, their symptoms and conditions. We have put some examples below. We are always happy to hear from you if you would like to add to the list!

People who are hot - Some people have a high metabolism and are always warm. At night this heat can cause discomfort, a hot pillow and a disturbed night’s sleep.

People who experience hot flushes - These may be brought on by the menopause or may be a side effect of cancer treatment or other medical treatments.

Cancer treatment - Many NHS oncology units and Macmillan nurses are recognising the benefits of a Chillow to those undergoing treatment as side effects of this are often severe overheating.

Menopause - The effect of the menopause varies from woman to woman. Some experience very few problems. Others can experience symptoms such as depression, anxiety and hot flushes to name a few. If these occur at night then they will cause a lack of sleep. This will have a negative impact on the other symptoms being experienced.

Skin problems - Certain conditions such as eczema are especially bad at night when heat caused by lying on a pillow causes irritation and this in turn will cause a worsening of the itching and irritation of the skin.

Flu and fevers - The Chillow has been shown to help reduce the body temperature.

Headaches/migraines -The Chillow can provide a cool flat surface perfect to help to ease the pain. The potential usefulness of the Chillow has been recognised by The Migraine Association.

Pregnancy- Physical and emotional changes that occur during pregnancy will affect each woman individually.
However, most women will testify to difficulty sleeping at some point in their pregnancy, particularly in the latter stages.
Hormonal changes can cause physical symptoms such as feeling hot and this in turn causes discomfort. Emotional symptoms such as anxiety and depression can affect sleep.
Other symptoms that can be experienced such as back ache, restless legs, swollen joints and hot flushes can be eased by utilising a Chillow.

Shift workers - If you work on the night shift and need to sleep in the day it can be very frustrating to be disturbed by the heat, especially in the warmer months.
We have sold Chillows to lots of shift workers, especially doctors and nurses who need to sleep during the hottest part of the day.
